Jimmy Dean Sausage Balls

Being from Tennessee, if my family uses sausage at all it's typically Tennessee Pride or even the sausage my uncle smokes himself. With the recent death of Jimmy Dean, another one of the sausage kings (among other things), I decided it was time to pay tribute.
As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I am not a big fan of traditional breakfast. I'm picky about my eggs, I don't really like sausage on a regular basis and I think I had so many biscuits as a child I just got tired of them. But one thing I have always loved (and still love) to have when I visit my grandparents are sausage balls. They're such a simple recipe, not the healthiest option in the world, but every once in a while it's nice to indulge.

Sausage Balls

  • 1lb Sausage
  • 2 Cups Bisquick mix
  • 10 oz grated Sharp Cheddar Cheese
Preheat oven to 375F. Allow all ingredients to come to room temperature. Mix together (with your hands is easiest!) and form into small round balls. Line on a greased baking sheet and bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through (the time really changes depending on your oven).

I love them plain, but my boyfriend likes them dipped in mustard. A little honey or syrup may also be delicious!
