I was so happy when Sandra Bullock won best actress for her role in The Blind Side!! With all the buzz surrounding her nomination, I knew she had to win, which was why I chose to make a dish inspired by that movie. I found this recipe for Sweet-Hot BBQ Tater Fries. It sounded a little strange, and wasn't any kind of BBQ I had ever had (I'm partial to the sloppy, drippy kind, myself) but I love sweet potatoes and rosemary so I decided to try them. As it turns out, I have a new favorite flavor combination: Cayenne and Rosemary!
Recipe adapted from Epicurious.com
- 2 pounds sweet potatoes or yams, peeled, cut into 1/2 inch wide strips
- 1/4 C extra virigin olive oil
- 1 T chopped fresh rosemary
- 1 T (packed) golden brown sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/3-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (depending on how hot you like it, you can add more!)
- Additional Olive Oil
Prepare barbecue (medium heat). Place potatoes in 13x9x2-inch baking dish. Add 1/4 cup oil, chopped fresh rosemary, brown sugar, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper to potatoes. Sprinkle potatoes with salt and pepper; toss to coat. Brush grill lightly with oil. Place potatoes on grill, spacing about 1 inch apart. Grill until potatoes are tender and slightly charred, turning occasionally, about 10 minutes total. Transfer potatoes to bowl, season to taste with salt and pepper, and serve.

We made sweet potato fries last night, too. How weird! I'll have to try that recipe some time. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I could eat sweet potatoes every day of my life and not get tired of them.
I definitely could have sweet potatoes most days of the week and not get tired of them! There's so much to do with them! But a little brown sugar is my favorite way :)
